Mr. W. P. Russel Fonseka has served as a Non-Executive Director of Bank of Ceylon (UK) Limited since 31st January 2023. He is the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, the parent entity of BOC UK.

Career guidelines

Mr. Fonseka brings over 34 years of banking experience, having served in a wide range of leadership roles across retail, corporate, international banking, treasury, and finance. He was previously Additional General Manager and Chief Financial Officer and held other senior roles including Senior Deputy General Manager (Corporate & Offshore Banking) and Deputy General Manager (Treasury, Retail Banking, and Finance & Planning).

His overseas experience includes a key tenure at BOC’s London Branch, strengthening his expertise in international banking and treasury.

He holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from PIM, Sri Lanka.

Mr. Fonseka is a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, and an alumnus of Harvard Business School. He serves on several boards across the BOC Group and financial sector institutions in Sri Lanka.
