Mark Bon was appointed as Secretary to the Board of Bank of Ceylon (UK) Limited on 12th April 2023. He is also the Head of Risk and Compliance, bringing over 30 years of senior experience across the UK financial services sector, including investment and retail banking, asset management, and payment systems.
Career guidelines
As Secretary to the Board, Mark plays a central role in supporting the effective functioning of the Board and its committees, ensuring high standards of corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
In his executive role, Mark leads the Bank’s risk and compliance function, with responsibility for enterprise risk management, prudential and conduct risk, financial crime compliance and operational resilience.
Prior to joining the Bank of Ceylon (UK), Mark held senior management roles and was a subject matter expert in risk and compliance at the consultancy firm Bovill Newgate. Other roles have included senior management roles at MUFG Bank, Gatehouse Bank, Investec Bank, BACS Payments, Nomura Asset Management and Aviva.
Mark holds a degree in Economics and Politics from London University, Master’s in Finance and Investment, Master of Science in Risk Management and an MBA. His knowledge and experience extends from working with start-up banks, large international banks and directly with the Bank of England while at BACS. He is committed to supporting the Bank’s long-term stability, compliance, and strategic growth.
